Core Skills & Subjects Program (CSS)
Scaled Rigor & Learning Support Models
Our Core Skills & Subjects (CSS) Program is a dynamic, student-centered approach for middle and high school learners that allows each student to work at their own challenge level in every subject. This reduced-stress model offers flexible pathways in math, ELA, science, social studies, and electives, where students can scale up or down in rigor based on readiness and interest.

This program includes two complementary learning models designed to support diverse learners.
The Scaled Rigor Model offers flexible pacing and differentiated instruction for students who benefit from additional time, structure, or scaffolding to complete assignments and engage deeply with content. Alongside this, the Learning Support Model provides targeted assistance for students with mild, non-behavioral learning challenges—such as executive functioning, mild processing delay/ disorders, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and anxiety—ensuring equitable access to the curriculum in a supportive and inclusive setting.
The curriculum is interdisciplinary, enriched with arts, sciences, and hands-on learning, and designed to foster deep thinking, creativity, and real-world connection. Ample breaks, wellness supports, and personalized mentorship ensure that academic growth is balanced with emotional well-being, empowering students to thrive both intellectually and personally.

What is a Scaled-Rigor Model?
Our Scaled Rigor Model is designed to meet students where they are—academically, creatively, and developmentally—by offering personalized pathways in each subject area. This flexible, student-centered approach empowers learners to work at their own challenge points, allowing them to scale rigor in each subject as they grow in confidence, skill, and curiosity.

SCALED-RIGOR FRAMEWORK

Individualized Challenge Levels:
Students are placed on personalized learning trajectories in each subject—Math, English Language Arts (ELA), Science, and Social Studies—based on their readiness and interests. This means a student can be working at an advanced level in one subject while receiving targeted support or enrichment in another.

Dynamic Curriculum Design:
Courses are designed with built-in flexibility, offering multiple entry points and scaffolding for learners who need it, as well as opportunities for acceleration, extension, and project-based learning for those ready to dive deeper.

Electives that Inspire:
A diverse menu of electives—including arts, music, creative writing, health and nutrition, geography, fiber arts, etc. —allows students to explore passions, build new skills, and express themselves creatively.

Literature and Arts Integration:
Across disciplines, literature and the arts are interwoven to promote critical thinking, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence.

Ample Breaks & Well-being Focus:
Recognizing the importance of balance, the schedule includes generous breaks throughout the day to support mental wellness, social connection, and physical activity. Flex blocks, mindfulness activities, and outdoor time are part of the daily rhythm.

Responsive Teaching & Mentorship:
Teachers serve as instructors, guides and mentors, providing regular feedback, coaching, and support. Learners are encouraged to set goals, reflect on progress, and advocate for their learning needs.

This model fosters independence, resilience, and a love of learning—preparing students not only for academic success but for thoughtful, creative engagement in the world.
Learning Support Cohorts
Our Learning Support Model provides individualized academic support and accommodations within core subject areas—Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies—for students who benefit from a more supported learning environment. This includes classroom-based accommodations such as extended time, scaffolding, assistive technology, and modified assignments tailored to each student's needs. When possible, students are grouped into academic cohorts of similar need, which provides a streamlined learning experience for all.

In addition to in-class support, students have the option to access remediation as an add-on service through our Academic Bridge Program. Remediation is offered through targeted intervention sessions, small-group instruction, or one-on-one tutoring focused on strengthening foundational skills and addressing learning gaps. This optional layer of support ensures that students not only keep pace with grade-level expectations but also build the confidence and competence needed for long-term success.
