Curriculum & Instruction

INTERDISCIPLINARY INQUIRY MODEL

LEAP! is an inquiry-driven, cross-curricular program for astute/accelerated 3rd–5th grade students, emphasizing hands-on learning, critical thinking, and real-world application. Each unit features guiding questions for students to investigate and explore. The curriculum is anchored in social studies and science concepts, which guide thematic units and literature selections, fostering deep connections across disciplines.  Composition is integrated throughout the curriculum, encouraging students to express their ideas through both analytical and creative writing. Given the unique model of our program, our interdisciplinary curriculum is composed of a variety of resources that promote project-based learning, including informational texts, literature selections with novel study guides, hands-on labs, research and reporting opportunties, and projects and presentations. Through collaborative and independent learning experiences, students develop the skills and confidence to think critically, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively.

LANGUAGE & LITERACY

This model is designed for avid readers capable of reading at a strong 3rd grade level or above as most lessons are rooted in reading and literature selections that serves as the backbone to inquiry, discussion, and project-based exploration. In class, structured literacy —including reading strategies, grammar, and spelling—will be built into novel studies and composition projects, while explicit, leveled instruction that targets the specific needs of the student will be the responsibility of the parent and completed on asynchronous days.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES

We have carefully curated a 3-year content cycle that aligns to the Georgia Standards for Excellence in the disciplines of science and social studies, ensuring students are presented with instruction and investigation in the required concepts throughout their time with us. These concept cycles are the building blocks for our inquiry model and present a springboard for deep and active learning. Presented in rotating 6 - 8 week units, students will enjoy interdisciplinary learning that spans everything from dinosaurs to outer space and everything in between!

LEVELED MATH INSTRUCTION

While we strive for interdisciplinary learning across all disciplines, Math is leveled and teacher-directed, providing students with targeted instruction that meets their individual needs while emphasizing problem-solving and real-world application. Our in-class math instruction is both robust and hands-on, ensuring students actively engage with mathematical concepts through exploration and practice. Students are placed in appropriate groups for leveled instruction tailored to their readiness, allowing for appropriate challenges and support. We utilize Math Mammoth, a homeschool-friendly worktext that aligns with our quality-over-quantity philosophy, while reinforcing conceptual understanding and deep mathematical thinking. Students continue mathematical studies at home through fluency activities, completing math problems and pages, and working on math projects.

WORK HARD, PLAY HARD

All students benefit from breaks to move, decompress, and socialize! Unstructured breaks are critical to reducing stress, renewing stamina, and cultivating friendships. We offer both a morning break and extended lunch period. Daily outdoor breaks and nature-based learning opportunities provide movement and reflection, enhancing student engagement and socialization.
